Some of the most promising info is tied to Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies’ storytelling. While new characters like Gabriel Kraft, Oberfuhrer Von List, and Kortifex the Deathless will guide the player as they progress, Operators will also be more talkative this time around. This is good news, as one of the big criticisms for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was the limited character dialogue. On top of this, the player chosen Dark Aether entities will speak often, inserting dark humor and interesting lore into every match.

Treyarch also released some new Zombies music, with the latest theme dubbed “Damned 5.” The new track keeps the core aspects of “Damned” intact, while also introducing some violins and a darker sound that suits the new occult focus. Weapon upgrade tiers will be changing as well, though only slightly, as green is being removed from the lineup. Players can also find Pack-A-Punched weapons from the Mystery Box and killed mini bosses, which is an interesting change.

Treyarch has also confirmed that there will be new perks in Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies, though in reality, they are just renamed versions of some classics. Fiendish Fortitude provides a max health boost like Jugger-Nog, Diabolical Damage makes critical hits more effective like Deadshot Daiquiri, and Venomous Vigor provides faster health regeneration like Quick Revive. Demonic Frenzy and Aethereal Haste round out the perk lineup for launch, with their abilities matching Speed Cola and Stamin-up respectively. Intriguingly, the base perks will be free, with players then using points to purchase upgrade tiers 2-4 as the match progresses.

The final aspect of Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies that was detailed further was the new Altar of Covenants feature. Treyarch has confirmed that the Altar will feature an impressive 32 upgrades at launch, ensuring that every match brings different upgrades for players to unlock. It was also confirmed that, instead of some upgrades being legendary and others being rare, every upgrade will have a different tier. As such, some players can get a rare version of Brain Rot in one match and a legendary version in another.

While all of this is exciting, the post does seemingly confirm that Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 1 will not bring a new round-based map. Instead, players will be seeing a new Objective added to Der Anfang and some setup for the game’s first main quest.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies launches on November 5 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
